Free episodes: two questions, two answers
Every series noted here opens with 2 free episodes, which makes them less of a gift than a test you get to set yourself. Give each one a specific question and they become useful.
The same offer, different proportions
The free count never changes across our eight series, but its weight does. On a five episode series, the pair covers two places out of five. On Kiss My Enemy it covers two of six, and on Isabella's Revelation two of seven. So the longer the show, the less of it you have seen when the free part ends, and the more you are guessing about when you pay. Keep that in mind before deciding that a strong start settles the matter.
What episode 1 should answer
Ask only this: do the premise and the tone suit you? Nothing more is needed yet. The running times we noted go from 48 seconds to 91, so this is a small investment in any case, and you can start with a one minute opener if you are sampling several. Do not grade the plot at this point. An opener has to set up a situation, and judging it on where the story goes is like auditing a ledger from its cover.
What episode 2 should answer
Now the question changes: does the tension move, or does it only repeat? This is the last look you get at no cost, so watch how the format and pacing behave once the setup is out of the way. If you caught yourself wanting the next one before this one ended, write that down mentally. If you were checking how much was left, write that down too. We cannot tell you what is in the episode, since we keep no scene lists, but your own reaction is the better record anyway.
When the free part ends
At that point you hold two answers and one price. Compare them with the full bill for that series, which is 36, 48 or 60 tokens at list price, and see whether both answers were yes before you spend anything.
